Diversity is good business.

But can box-office success be sustained when its a film with an all-Asian principal cast?

Its a win on every level, and its going to be ahugehit, he says.

[Diversity] is a really important part of our business plan.

That business plan, of course, requires international support.

And people in Asia dont care about Asian-American representation.

Theres no need since in Asia, theres no shortage of seeing their own faces and stories on-screen.

Why cant you cast them in an ensemble?

Why cant you keep them in mind for other projects?

Why didnt all of them break out?

They could have gone [with an] Asian [actor], I cant deny that.

The studios were adamant about trying to cast Asian actors.

I mean, this was a difficult one.

It was something we were definitely conscious about.

I do think its case by case… Its not, Oh, weredefinitelynot going to hire Asians.

If this movie does what I think its going to do and connects with people, itll work.

And Huang says shes optimistic as well.

We dont get as many chances.

As exciting asMulanandCrazy Rich Asiansare, they are still stories set in Asia, not America, she says.

We need to see more of both.
