To degrade a person?

Does it have to be a word to degrade their race?
To identify someone that way, its such an ugly word.
Whats the point of it?
You walk out, Oh, thats right, he was black, or Asian.
Because its an ugly word and none of us want to hear it.
I certainly dont want to hear it.
Denzel doesnt want to hear it.
