Another setback for the eagerly awaitedStar TrekTV series revival.

Bryan Fuller is stepping down as showrunner onStar Trek: Discovery.

The acclaimed writer-producer ofHannibalandPushing Daisieshas shepherded the project for months.

Fuller will stay on board as an executive producer.

TheTrekseries was announced a year ago for a January, 2017 premiere.

The series was conceived as the first original series for the CBS All Access streaming service.

But no cast has been announced; the production has been searching for a diverse female lead for months.

Sources say the show is around $6-7 million per episode price tag.

In August, Fullersketched the outline for his visionfor the show to the press.

The new series will focus on a female lieutenant commander on a starship before Captain Kirk helmed the Enterprise.
