In the ever-more-complicated narrative of the Scandal election, Jake’s role becomes clearer.
And this is all following Toms confession that leaves Cyrus murder charge all but overturned.
But outside of Cyrus current state, feels like Vanessa is posing her own set of problems.

The afternoon leading up toThe Liberty Report, our girl Vanessa is out crashing SUVs.
In short, shes not doing so hot.
Actually, shes full-on wasted and has no issue chatting about her drunken mess or her 23-year-old friend.
It launches quite the argument between Jake and Vanessa that Olivia has to shut down.
Jake just wants to do what he is required to do to get by, but Olivia wantsmore.
It leads Olivia to launch into why shehas to win, Reese Witherspoon-Electionstyle.
It wins Jake over and sends up all kinds of red flags for Vanessa.
She wants to know about his and Olivias relationship, but Jake shuts her down.
Yikes, got it, girl.
Of course, Rowan was on the other end of that text that Jake received on election night.
The Devil was always behind Vargas death.
Olivia accompanies Vanessa home, letting Jake know the interview with Sally was postponed.
She follows up to see if Jake is holding anything back from her, but he rebuffs it entirely.
NEXT: What happened to Jennifer Fields?
Later that night, Vanessa tries to instigate some husband/wife time, and Jake isnt interested.
But Vanessa has a point they need a break from the election and her father dying and everything else.
It breaks Jake down, but not enough to actually open up about who he is.
He follows up that together they can be a team, but she just cant know those answers.
Yep, our boy was responsible for that explosion, too.
While the team investigates that motel, Olivia and Mellie head over to Jakes place to chat with Vanessa.
Its classic Mellie doing what Bellamy Young does best sell a monologue.
Thats when Jake comes down from the set to present Olivia with information that sends her for a tailspin.
At this point, shes expendable.
Honestly, who knows.
But shes not one to play second place to Command.
They drive into the night and he tosses her phone out the window without addressing anything Olivia is asking.
When they arrive in the middle of nowhere, Jake admits he has a confession.
While walking into the woods, Jake admits to killing Jennifer, but the pseudo-real confession?
Hes back in cahoots with Rowan.
But thesuper crazyconfession?Jennifer is actually alive, in a cabin in the woods.
She appears from the back, presumably meaning that voicemail was a decoy.
And Olivia couldnt be more shocked.
