The ‘Alien’ director will be honored on Feb. 4 at the 69th Annual DGA Awards
Ridley Scott is set to receive the Directors Guild of Americas Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Achievement in Motion Picture Direction, putting theAliendirector in elite company with the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese.
The four-time Oscar nominee will be presented with the award at the 69th Annual DGA Awards on Feb. 4, making him only the 35th person to be bestowed the honor in the organizations 80-year history and the first since Milos Forman in 2013.
Masterful in any genre, Ridleys groundbreaking methods and peerless directing instincts have brought to life some of the most memorable films of our time, capturing the resilience of the human spirit and captivating the hearts and minds of audiences around the world, said DGA president Paris Barclay in a statement.

Stunning visuals, immersive worlds and powerful performances underpin his diverse body of work which ranges fromAlien,Blade RunnerandThelma & LouisetoGladiator,Black Hawk Down, and, most recently,The Martian.
Over the course of four decades, his trailblazing career has demonstrated the impact and importance of the directors singular vision.
For these reasons, and so many more, we are honored to present the Lifetime Achievement Award in feature film to Ridley Scott.
This is just the latest recognition for Scott, who wasrecently honoredat the 30th Annual American Cinematheque Awards for his contribution to the Art of Moving Picture.
Scotts breakout film was the 1979 sci-fi classicAlien, a universe that the director will be returning to for his next project,Alien: Covenant, which stars Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston, and will bereleased on May 19.
