Claire and Frank’s relationship hits a low point, while Jamie reunites with an old foe in prison.

Only problem: He’s seen them all already.

And obviously not with Claire.

“We agreed we were free to…” Frank trails off.

“I’m being discreet.”

“Yes, you are.

Thank you,” Claire responds curtly.

That evening, she and Frank get into another tense row.

“You humiliated me in front of my new colleagues,” Claire storms.

“Welcome to the club,” Frank shoots back.

Wouldn’t you agree?"

Claire suggests divorce, but Frank rebuffs her.

He doesn’t want to lose Brianna, who at this point is about 10 years old.

This scene makes his actions eight years later even more reprehensible.

She misunderstands his intentions and explains that she can’t leave her hospital in Boston.

But Frank doesn’t want Claire to come with himjust Bri.

“You’ve been waiting for the clock to run out!”

“You couldn’t look at Brianna without seeing him, could you?

Without that constant reminder.

That’s why you haven’t forgotten him with time.”

“That amount of time doesn’t exist,” she says.

But the whole argument is a moot point.

She arrives at the morgue to find a cold, pale Frank on the slab.

“You’re my first love.”

Meanwhile, back in 1755, Jamiehaving surrendered himself to the Red Coatsis serving his time at Ardsmuir Prison.

You’ll remember as a 16-year-old, Grey’s life was spared by Jamie.

Jamie remarks to Murtagh (who’s still alive!)

Indeed, any man who finds that gold and turns it in will surely find favor with the Crown.

And, in the very specific case of John Grey, a likely ticket out of Ardsmuir.

Jamie, however, declines the request: “I’m a prisoner.

Not an interpreter.”

Jamie counter-offers: He wants blankets and medicine for the ill inmates.

With the negotiation complete, Jamie goes to the sick man, a Duncan Kerr.

And it’s all true what Jamie’s been told of the man’s incoherence.

“She seeks a brave man,” he tells Jamie.

She will come for you."

Could this White Witch he speak of be La Dame Blanche?

Jamie wastes no time finding out.

A few days later, he runs away from the inmates' hunting chain gang.

Jamie reveals that he figured out Grey’s identity very early on, but never said anything.

And now, he’s waiting for Grey to keep his word from all those years before.

(A weird bit of 18th-century logic, I guess?)

“Well, sir, here I am,” Jamie says kneeling before him.

“I am not a murderer of unarmed prisoners,” Grey says.

Back at the prison, the two gamely continue their weekly appointments, playing chess in the candlelight.

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

“Or I will kill you.”

But it seems Jamie need not worry about Grey, as the order goes out to close Ardsmuir Prison.

And with that, to Helwater we go!
