SPOILER ALERT FORTHE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE.

BUT, LIKE, ACTUALLY.

Between that mind-boggling array of cameos (including Sauron!

The Lego Batman Movie

), a voice cast of surprising reveals (like Billy Dee Williams!

), and the guiltily addictive soundtrack, EW had questions.

So to do that… Its almost likeCabin in the Woods.

But in our world, wecando something like that and unleash all these characters into Batmans world.

At a certain point, though, you have to weigh what characters the kids going to get.

In LEGO, its sometimes hard to get a really quick interpretation of something.

I was already worried that we werent doing enough with some characters.

Maybe in future movies, well give a shot to bring more characters in.

I wanted characters from all over the world.

I wanted stuff that has a history and is time-tested, like the Wicked Witch.

And I hope people love Gremlins as much as I do.

I definitely kept a lot of coordinators, producers, and lawyers busy on this movie.

Im sure I drove people crazy.

Did you have to get her personal approval?Yeah.

But honestly, there were no notes.

It was all really positive and helpful.

It was never Im uncomfortable with that.

I cant say enough good things about working with her.

So to be able to cast somebody in that way was great.

I felt really proud about that.

I think over the course of the movies, were building out the relationship between those.

Youll start to see it in what were doing withNinjagoand what what were doing inLEGO 2.

There are going to be the repercussions of whats happened in [LEGO Batman].

If you agree that he went through some change, theres more stuff in store for Batman inLEGO 2.

I wanted the movie to end with joy.

Actually, my dream would have been to make this movie a musical.
