Jodie Whittaker becomes first woman to play Doctor Who

The BBC announced Whittakers casting on Sunday morning after the Wimbledon Mens Final.

Im beyond excited to begin this epic journey with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet.

Its more than an honor to play the Doctor, said Whittaker about her casting in a statement.

I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender.

Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything thats exciting about change.

Whittaker is the first female to play Doctor Who in the franchises history.

Her audition for The Doctor simply blew us all away.

The Thirteenth Doctor is on her way.

She has above all the huge heart to play this most special part.

Shes going to be a fantastic Doctor.

Capaldi isnt the only one leaving.

Theres new monsters, theres new jeopardy.

Its my show up to the point Mr. Capaldi regenerates.

Then it passes to Chris, and he worries about the last section.
