But unfortunately for Ben, his efforts to get over Rafe arent so simple.

Thats not actually how I wrote it.

I wrote the book with the romance, but I wrote it as a coming-of-age story.

So I thought the book had ended.

I happened to be talking to my editor, and I mentioned that.

I said, Do you want a book from Bens perspective that follows up?

and she just said, Yes, that.

So, thats what happened.

How was it coming back to these characters?

So, I had to come back to it.

I have to say, it was like coming back to old friends.

It was a pleasure.

I had to write a character whos much less, Here I am.

Im talking to you, and Im so chatty.

Ben is not chatty.

That did help a lot because its really hard for me to write characters who dont think a lot.

I had never been there, and thats where hes from.

Theres also Hannah, his other love interest in the book.

How did you approach crafting that?

Hannah is every bit a good a choice as Rafe is, theyre just very different.

I had to come up with a different girl, so he met a new girl.

I think that people just like that world, and want to be back into it.

Whats the general consensus been like?

The thing about it that if you readOpenly Straight, you cant end with them together.

That would be totally false.

I dont know what they wanted.

Not what I gave them, I guess.
