And there is still a huge amount of unexplored space to chart.

Thats the beauty ofStar Wars.

A story told through publishing enriches the larger universe.

Luke

Disney Lucasfilm Press

Its just a different journey than last time, says Michael Siglain, creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing.

There are still some Easter eggs in a couple of pieces that will make sense after seeing the film.

But this one is more thematically tied toThe Last Jedi.

Leia

Disney Lucasfilm Press

There wont be books delving deep into the history or lineage of Rey or Finn.

Thats still heavy-lifting for the movies to do.

But the motivations of General Leia Organa and her exiled Jedi brother Luke?

Phasma2

Del Rey

Thats open space for scribes.

Well, was it really?

This book by Ken Liu presents its stories as rumors circulating through the galaxy.

Canto

Disney Lucasfilm Press

He doesnt even say anything, Siglain says.

Did Luke Skywalker actually take down 20 AT-ATs in the Battle of Hoth?

Was he just a charlatan who made up the story of his Death Star run?

MadeEasy[2]

DK

Is it possible he was at the Battle of Jakku chronicled in Chuck WendigsAftermathnovels?

Someone says something about Luke Skywalker, and they say, Oh, he was just a myth.

Thats just a legend.

And others say, No, no, no.

I know a story about him.

As for exploring the long time ago aspects, the past informs the future.

Princess of Alderaans title also recalls the classicA Princess of Marssci-fi novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Its set on the eve of her 16th birthday.

Shes realizing that there is more to the galaxy and to her life than whats going on.

She decides to become involved in the fight against the Empire, regardless of what her parents think.

As a parent, what situation does that put you in?

And as a 16-year-old, do you really know as much as you think?

All kids rebel against their parents at some point, but they dont always join a Rebellion.

Phasma

One word.

You have a very mysterious character, Siglain says.

You dont know who this person is.

You dont know what her background is.

All you see is that expressionless mask.

And so the thought was, well, what if we could shed some light onto who she is.

She does have a secret in her past that she guards.

And when that secret is threatened to be revealed, what will she do to keep that secret hidden?

She is a ruthless and a cunning character.

This takes that to the next level, Siglain says.

You will be afraid of this character.

You will know why she is a captain in the First Order.

The First Order comes to that planet, and she sees a great opportunity when they arrive.

Maybe well finally learn her full name, too.

Its a city filled with opportunity.

There are very high stakes in this city, Siglain says.

This isLifestyles of the Rich and FamousforStar Wars.

But looks can certainly be deceiving, and everything isnt always as beautiful as it seems.

I think this is his backstory or this is her backstory.

And weve been able to take those and run with them.

We looked at this asCasablancaand Ricks Cafe by way of Monte Carlo.

Star Warsis supposed to be for everyone.

It should be for everyone, Siglain said.

What was fromEpisode II, what was fromEpisode III?

This book does that.

Its our Star Wars 101.

Its ourStar Wars for Dummies.
