What did you think about the shows choice to not depict the suicide itself?
I think that was the right thing to do.
The show is so smart, and it does such a good job of peeling the layers.
When did you find out this was in the cards for Ryan?
I knew it was a limited arc, but I didnt ever know how it was going to end.
How did you react when you found out he would take his own life?
I knew that Ryan was a very internal, withdrawn, but also very brilliant young man.
Why doesnt he just go to jail?
Or why doesnt he take Joes advice and run away?
But those are not things that somebody like Ryan would even consider.
He wants to make a statement and reveal that real truth to people.
This is the first big character death weve seen onHalt and Catch Fire.
I think theres definitely going to be a residue of his suicide.
I always believed that Ryan never thought those options were sincere, in his state of panic.
What do you think was the beginning of Ryans downfall?
Was it the very meeting of Joe, or somewhere further down the line?
I think thats when he realizes, I dont have everything its going to take.
Do you feel like you were just cracking the character?
I was just understanding the guy!
Its funny because hes somebody who was so involved in season 3.
And Ryan knows that.
What will you miss most about the set?
That was something I really enjoyed on this set, and I will miss that.
The two-part season finale ofHalt and Catch Fireairs Oct. 11 on AMC.
