ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Your new record is about two doomed lovers struggling in a paranormal world.

I didnt realize I was building the foundation for this concept.

That relationship played a major role in your 2015 debut; you and your ex madeBadlandstogether.

Did his absence affect your creative process on this album?I had a lot of insecurity.

It was like, What if everything people like about me is all the parts he contributed?

So I was determined to do everything myself.

I wanted the end result to somehow prove to me that I was just as good on my own.

Now Ive toured the world and have fans that I want to make happy.

The space I need to fill with my sound is not a bedroom anymore, its an arena.

Lets write another hit so I can be rich!

Was it a confidence boost to hear such powerhouse talents say youve got chops?Oh, definitely.

Its easy for people to be like, You put on a great show!

Its like, Of course I did theres fire and lights and a bunch of people singing along!

Its like, Well, f you guys!

It was this psychedelic dream space.

After the album release youre launching a massive tour.

You learn so much about a record when you perform the songs.

And Id like to take some time and do some philanthropy.

When Im off, we spend time at My Friends Place here in L.A.

They house and help homeless youth and work in conjunction with Happy Hippie, Miley [Cyrus] nonprofit.

Youre also a big supporter of Planned Parenthood.

What do you get out of giving back?Thats what keeps you a fing human in this industry!

Its the most narcissistic s of all time.

Then you get on stage, and thousands of people applaud you.

[But] going out and being around other people and helping other people…it grounds you.

It makes you realize that theres more to life.
