Theres probably more of me in Lois than any character Ive written, Bond tells EW.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY:WithTriple Threat, youve now written three books about Lois Lane.

Either shes just Supermans girlfriend or a damsel in distress.

It never fails to irritate me because, to me, this is a character with so many facets.

Shes tough, but shes vulnerable.

Shes smart, but she doesnt always think about taking care of herself because shes more interested in justice.

She gets in trouble because shes not afraid to get in trouble, which is what superheroes do.

I always say, Trouble is what superheroes do.

I absolutely think of her as a hero.

I feel like I learn new things about her every time I write about her.

In your books, Lois is a teenager and not yet the person weve become familiar with.

How do you approach that aspect of her?Lois never really had a teenage backstory in comics.

We always meet her as an already established Pulitzer Prize-winner.

So theres a lot of blank canvas there.

Her biggest challenge is being vulnerable in front of other people.

But even so, it is the challenge of growing into this new place that she found.

And, that is set up inTriple Threat.

You do feature other characters from the DC universe.

Do you have to ask for permission to incorporate them?

Also, Perry White will be her boss.

Those were the only characters that existed.

But I did enjoy getting to pull out some of the deep cut villains.

But also I would have written that relationship in a completely different way.

I would never have wanted them to be rivals with each other.

I would want them to be friends, like with Betty and Veronica onRiverdale.

That, to me, would be the way to do that.

But because it so established as a rivalry in the comic, it would be difficult.

There is a [push] in traditional media in trying to figure out how to get young readers.

So it just made sense to me.

I wanted them to have their own discreet thing.

When I first started the book, I had this idea that they would never get to meet.

But Clark and Lois are an inextricable part of each other.

So it made so much sense to me that they would meet in a way I have them meet.

The thing is, he does meet someone like him.

She just isnt an alien with superpowers!

And they actually get to meet in real life in this book!

Tell me aboutthat. The question I get asked every book is, Will these two ever meet?

And, itisthe next logical step.

This is the next place that Lois has to grow into, this relationship.

So, I really just wanted to make it so delightful that readers would just explode with happiness.

That was my goal.

So, Im hoping that this will be that for a lot of people who are reading it.

Hes not Superman yet.

These books are part of his journey towards becoming Superman.

I wanted just to start to see the beginnings of his journey.

So, I tried to address that pretty directly in this book.

And, hes like, What leg do I have to stand on here?

So, I knew Clark wouldnt be made because he knows hes done it to a much greater degree.

As youve said, this is Clarks story too.

Hes the ultimate cinnamon roll.

He doesnt have any of that weird need to be the alpha male.

Superman has embraced whats best about humanity.

And this book finally does tell us who the Inventor is.

Right?It does, without a doubt.

But it does not definitively tell us whether that person is good or bad yet.

But it definitely answers that question.

I hope its a little bit of a different take on this character than people have seen before.
