Hannah tries out mothering for a day when her own mom comes to visit and gets too high.

But by the time her mom arrives, she seems like shes made up her mind.

she asks Loreen before explaining that shes thought long and hard about what that would mean for her.

Hannah puts on her optimistic daughter face, encouraging her mom that she could still meet someone.
Loreen doesnt want to hear it and storms off with half her daughters clean laundry back to the apartment.

After the initial shock wears off, he storms into the restaurants kitchen a great place to pout.
Hannah joins him, and soon, hes telling her its a terrible idea.
Then he tells her shes going to be a terrible mother in a last-ditch attempt to change her mind.
Meanwhile, the cooks are just going about their business without paying any mind to the two.

Shes sweet and gentle and tries to lighten the mood by deadpanning that shes never going to die.

This cute exchange makes his next scene with Marnie all the more painful.
Theyre at Hermies house and hes feeling wistful as he sorts through his fallen friends belongings.
Marnie couldnt care less.
Finally, Ray suggests they break up, a proposition Marnie weirdly rejects.
If that doesnt change your outlook, what should?
Its not necessarily because these people Marnie and Loreen and Elijah dont want the best for them.
Maybe shes jealous; maybe she just doesnt understand that the kind of change hes going through is possible.
The question now is, who is going to let these changes happen?
Even Marnie is trying its just not really working.
But even with her, I have some hope that something will click.
