Martinbought a bowling alley in Santa Fe.

But that was fine for Martin, who is not exactly an avid bowler.

We also spoke to Martin about his experience with the group and what attracted him to get involved.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How did you first encounter Meow Wolf?GEORGE R.R.

MARTIN:It was after I bought the theater.

I own a small arthouse theater in Santa Fe,the Jean Cocteau Cinema.

So it was probably 2014 when i first heard about Meow Wolf.

We werent getting the high school or college kids; we needed to reach out to a younger group.

I didnt act on it.

I was like, Meow Wolf, what the hell is that?

But then a few months later, I finally followed up on it.

Thats how I knew Vince, from working with that.

Well no, not really, Im not much a bowler.

Everything had been gutted, but it was this immense space.

They told me their vision for the House of Eternal Return, and it pushed all my buttons.

Wow, this sounds really cool.

They poked me right there.

Could this collection of kids really pull this off?

And once we opened it, would people show up?

Thered been nothing like this before.

Ever since it opened, its just been a wild ride.

Weve gone from one success to another.

The attendance has been far greater than anyone could have predicted, even the Meow Wolf guys themselves.

Now were opening in other cities, and theres the documentary.

I think its exciting.

There are people in the Santa Fe arts scene who have welcomed that and are open to that.

Then theres a more conservative element, saying, well that might be fun, but thats notart.

That makes me bristle a little.

Oh thats not art.

Itisart, just like sci-fi and fantasyisliterature.

Youre seeing it, though not the same way as someone walking through it, youre hearing it.

When youre in there, you’ve got the option to totally lose yourself and wander through.

Every trip is different, and you might tailor the experience to suit yourself.

I see younger kids running through like, oh wow look at this room and whats in this room?

Some people like playing the laser harp or the mammoth bones.

Its very much come in and play here.

Its a playhouse that children and adults can enjoy.

Itisart, theres some amazing art going on in there.

Everybody has their favorite rooms and their favorite things to do at Meow Wolf, and thats great.

They helped me discover where my talents were andwere not(in the case of music).

Music classes get cut, and kids dont get that education anymore.

I think its amazing that Meow Wolf is providing that as well as the House of Eternal Return.
