The Doctor isn’t the only hero on the scene in this Superman-inspired Christmas special.

Its been exactly one year sinceDoctor Whotouched down our screens.

So, its no surprise his love for the character along with alter-ego Clark Kent definitely shines through.

Only, this origin story doesnt begin with a crashed spaceship in the middle of Kansas.

(Too bad he doesnt knowSanta actually resembles Nick Frost.

Also, I low-key want Grants wallpaper.

While they wait for Grants parents to go to bed, the Doctor catches up on his comic-book reading.

First, he figures out Superman and Clark Kent are the same person.

I drew specs on Superman!)

But Grant tells him everyone knows.

As the Doctors face falls, he argues, Lois Lane doesnt.

And shes a reporter.

This kid might have just ruined theDoctors Christmas.

Dont they like him?Grant:He was bitten by a radioactive spider.

Hair loss, vomiting, and death.

Fat lot of use.

(Turns outCoal Hill Schoolisnt theonlyplace the Doctor has disrupted with his time-and-space-traveling shenanigans.)

When the Doctor freaks out (You cant go around swallowing things!

What age are you?

So, hed just assumed it was medicine for his cough.

Grant soon learns one of the side effects of swallowing strange glowing rocks is getting superpowers.

The Doctor explains its the result of reading too many comic books.

Its giving what you want.

Wish it was that easy.)

(Im in hell.

The Doctor figures the crystal is now a part of Grants DNA.

(Anyone else getMan of Steelvibes from this scene, or just me?)

Once again, Moffats banter is delightfully snappy.

Mr. Brock:I killed them all.

Buried them in my backyard.Ms.

Fletcher:How big is your backyard?Mr.

Also present is Nardole, who interrupts to ask where the bathroom is.

Bless Nardole and his constant I just found my way to Narnia sense of fashion.

Ms. Fletcher follows Brock and a Dr. Sim to a top-secret vault filled with brains in jars.

Sim points out the number of brains is growing, because there are now 36.

(That number again!

How much do you want to bet this is how old Grant is right now?)

The Doctor, busy snacking on some sushi, joins Fletcher on her spying.

(I brought snacks.

The mark of a pro.)

Back in the vault, Brock taps one of the jars and eyes emerge in the brain.

Turns out these aliens are replacing the brains of people with the ones in these jars.

Surgeons in masks emerge from hidden compartments and capture the poor guy.

While the Doctor tries to talk their way out of this, theres a knock at the window.

Determined not to hurt anyonetoobadly, he shoves Sim, who passes out.

It feels a little like were watching Moffats Superman fan fiction, but honestly, it kind of works.

Especially when Lucy retorts Youre real and youread?

to the Ghosts comment that hes a fan of her newspaper column.

Grant drops off Lucy on the street, but just then, Grants baby monitor goes off.

Look at that, the Bat Signals an app now, Lucy says.

I love you, Lucy.

Im the main one.

which was a callback to the one theyd had when he was a kid.

The Doctor then quotes Uncle Bens iconic line about power and responsibility before admonishing Grant for leaving Jennifer alone.

He also questions the insanity of Grants decision to be a nanny and a superhero.

We dont get a chance, though.

Mrs. Lombard, the babys mother, comes home and we learn its none other thanLucy.

She ended up marrying Grants best friend, who left her when Jennifer was born.

While Grant flies off to save people from a burning building, Lucy questions the Doctor.

She then asks him who the Ghost is, but he refuses to tell her.

Donna and certainly River talked to him like this.

She seems surprised, since he hardly goes out.

But he tells her hell figure it out.

As she leaves to confirm with The Ghost, the Doctor points out hes jealous of himself.

Grant gets snippy and says hes known Lucy for 24 years.

This throws the Doctorand confirms my age theory!)

Twelve notes: Time passes for everyone.

But surprise, surprise…

The Doctor is there in person!

In turn, it will cause mass panic and draw out all the world leaders.

Because: What do all the rich old men always do when the fighting starts?

Theyll find the safest place to hide themselves away.

And theyll send all the young people to die.

Twelve notes its agreatplan (which I agree, it totally is).

But then he says humanity has the same plan it always has: him.

TheDoctoris about to attack New York City!

Grant is about to reveal who he is but stops at the last second.

Its a good thing, because Brock shows up with a team ready to extract the Ghosts brain.

The hero flies away and Grant shows up on the roof, baby monitor in hand.

Hes also taken hostage quite quickly.

The Doctor shows up, delighted with the turn of events.

Then they float into the air, still holding the potentially explosive ship.

They leave Jennifer (and her baby monitor) in the Doctors care.

Brock tries to point a gun at the Doctor, who just sonic screw-drives it to malfunction.

He then announces UNIT is on its way to terminate the main facility.

Looks like Osgoods going to have her hands a little full.

Lucy intuitively asks him what her name was?

As per usual, the Doctor deflects and heads into the TARDIS.

Lucy finally asks, Doctor Who?

to which Grant replies, Doctor Mysterio.

(No, Im not crying.Yourecrying.)

At least we got a glimpse of Bill, the newest companion, in a trailer for next season.

After all, as the Doctor himself said, Things end.

Everything begins again, too.
