ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You are playing the bad guy inThor, right?
CATE BLANCHETT:Yes, You get to a certain age and you dont play the hero anymore.
[Laughs] You play villains.

Co-star Mark Ruffalo has described your character, Hela, as the worst of the worst.
Did he say that?
Well, hes the greenest of the green!
I didnt get to work so much with Mark, unfortunately.
But I did get to work with Chris [Hemsworth] and talk about delightful!
Hes just absolutely fabulous.
The whole thing was just a riot and fantastic fun.
Hes wonderful Id eat him for breakfast if I could.
Chris Hemsworth is actually sort of a giant in person.
Its not just movie magic!
He is a big guy!
So youre now in New York to start work onOceansEight, which were all very excited about.
Its going to be its own thing.
So this an interesting side step.
Youve attended that gala in real life.
Yes, I chaired it with Nicolas Ghesquiere and Francois-Henri Pinault in 2007.
So I know it from that angle but this is an entirely different thing.
Its like giving a kid a camera on Christmas day and suddenly seeing things from their perspectives.
The whole thing, the way its put together, its really smart and fun.
What can you tell us about your character?
Uh….Im not sure.
[Laughs] I probably shouldnt go into too much detail but I play a long-time cohort.
Its so great to have this powerhouse ensemble of women onscreen together.
Its really deeply uncreative.
It doesnt produce anything interesting for men or women.
And you basically go straight from filming into your play,The Present, right?
I think I finish on the Saturday and Im in rehearsal on a Monday.
Its from an almost broken fragment of a work of Chekhovs that Andrew Upton [Blanchetts husband] adapted.
It seems crazy that after all this time on stage, this is your Broadway debut.
Weve come to New York a few times before to BAM and Lincoln Center.
Now that weve left the company, its a much more achievable.
Its a whole different audience.
And Im really happy that the entire original cast is coming.
And John Crowley is directing!
And then next year youll start onWhered You Go, Bernadette?
Lucie Arnaz has been incredibly, unbelievably generous.
I mean, you want to talk about astonishing women who have made a lasting impact?
And then youve got this amazing love story between these two people.
Hes Cuban and hes younger than her.
I dont think I realized he was younger.
Of course, we wont be casting anyone younger than me.
Its an incredible act of trust.
I take it thatI Love Lucymade it to Australia?
Oh god, yes.
I think she was watched around the globe.
Ive watched them all.
Theres so much there and its so rich.
But its a lot to try and think about inhabiting that genius!
So when do you think youll be able to get it going?
As soon as possible!
Ive read a lot of films and made a few that have ended up being biopics.
In the end, this has to be so much more than that.
The directorial vision of it will be absolutely vital.
But like all good things, its equally terrifying and exciting.
