ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations on bothEighth GradeandBoarding School.
I dont really like watching myself on screen.
Especially when I first sawEighth Grade, I found it almost cringe-y watching myself.

They all worked in the business, so I was around that life.
Presence and expressions can mean more than words in acting, sometimes.
Its very interesting, playing those roles.
I think that the thing withEighth Gradeis that my character, Aiden, is very overconfident.
I do like scary movies, so it was fun to actually work in one.
What was your way into that element of the character?Wearing the dress was very hard for me.
I didnt know how a lot of people would take it, and it kind of scared me.
It was difficult for me.
The dress bothered me, but I ended up getting over it.
Boaz explained it to me, saying the dress wasnt really about cross-dressing or anything like that.
Its like a superhero outfit for Jacob, him taking on the power of his grandmother.
Theyre both very interesting scenes in the movie.
So I was pretty excited about that.
They wanted to have Christine and Jacob read together.
It was a lot easier making friends on set because of her, because I knew her so well.
Last question.Eighth Gradehas been greeted so warmly, both by critics and audiences.
Its more than just a 13-year-old girl struggling; its about anxiety.
For that reason, its a really cool movie.
