SurvivorsRob and Amber may have found success and love in a hopeless, remote place.

But overall, pairs are tricky beasts in reality competition shows.

In theory, they seem great.

With two oxen, youll move faster than you would with one.

In short, they fail to pick up on inherent dangers ahead.

We kick off the night withBB16winner Derrick still in the house after reminiscing about the summer.

As his final task, Derrick presides over the HOH competition, Tales From Decrypt.

Houseguests face off in rounds, trying to decode clues to the names of evicted houseguests.

If a houseguest guesses correctly first, they move on to the next round.

Guess incorrectly, and the contestant loses the round to the other player.

There are plenty of tragedies this season, so its no surprise this HOH competition kicks off with another.

Theres some back-and-forth between Alex and Jason and Jason and Kevin.

Then, Kevin confronts Alex, who obviously cant tell Kevin shes trying to undermine him.

Sure, stirring up trouble is a tactic in competition reality if it has a purpose.

What Alex does only seems to isolate and highlight her relationship with Jason more than it already was highlighted.

The Odd Couple

On to the odd couple of Christmas and Josh.

Its clear this HOH doesnt just belong to Christmas it belongs to both of them.

These two have a distinctly Harold-and-Maude vibe.

We get another dose of tears as the episode takes a distinctly Lifetime-movie turn.

Alex and Jason are playing really good, and theyre really good liars, Josh says.

Christmas agrees she wouldnt be too upset taking out Alex and Jason over Mark.

She eventually goes to Couple No.

Sadly, he gets Save a Friend, but he has no friends in the house.

Thats all well and good, but she doesnt see the jokes on her.

The jokes on everyone but…you guessed it…Paul.

He knows where he sits as king, and hes drawing up his plan for a solid checkmate.

Ive got to attach myself to each power couple, Paul tells us.

Kill off Jason, and Paul becomes Alexs co-pilot.

And, whether we like it or not, thats what I call a trailblazer.
