Sam delivers the news to Coulson in unforgettable fashion: This is Agent Koenig.

Theyve got Agent Koenig.

Billy Koenig has been kidnapped because Coulson had entrusted him with the Darkhold.

Knowing that, Radcliffe apparently directed Senator Nadeers henchmen to his trail.

And now, theyre locked up together, Billy and Radcliffe.

A thug comes in and threatens Billy for information on the Darkhold, but Billy is unfazed.

Soon enough, the real bad guy (Zach McGowan) enters.

For a sci-fi show that has battled gods and robots, this guy doesnt look very frightening.

According to him, the old ways are better.

This guy is firmly on the side of humans in this scenario.

He even calls himself the superior man which means hes probably The Superior Nadeers been mysteriously referring to.

Radcliffe doesnt want Billy to be damaged.

He asks the Superior for permission to go inside Billys brain himself.

Fitz is also currently trying to get inside a brain.

Back at base, hes been trying to get information out of the Radcliffe LMD.

To further mock his interrogators, he starts singing a birdsong.

She doesnt really like the name Quake, but he sure does.

Theyre connected to the guys who tried to assassinate Mace, meaning theyre all connected to Nadeer.

Fans can only hope theres been a distinct lack of levity in the show without those two bickering assassins.

What unites all these shady figures, Sam realizes, is their desire to wipe out Inhumans.

Thats how they want to use the Darkhold as a genocidal super weapon.

Sam knows about the Darkhold and even tells the others where it is.

Its with LT, the original Koenig who recruited all the others to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Radcliffe LMD eventually follows this line of inquiry until an enraged Fitz unplugs it and storms off.

Shes convinced that Fitz became so smart and clever as a direct repudiation of his condescending father.

Eventually, she looks in on her boyfriend and finds him studying a picture from childhood.

why she fell in love with him.

He arrives just in time to find Mack seconds away from blowing the Radcliffe LMDs head off.

As established in prior episodes, Mack really hates robots.

Luckily, Fitz intervenes just in time.

Thanks to Simmons line about programming, he realized all that confusing code was just gibberish.

FitzSimmons dig around this energy brain but dont find anything as interesting as a slip-up from the Radcliffe LMD.

He refers to the brains, as in plural.

Simmons deduces this must mean another LMD, and she even knows who it is.

After all, she was there when Radcliffe mapped her brain.

NEXT: Not built to last

The S.H.I.E.L.D.

team finds the other Koenig brother, Thurston.

Hilariously enough, they come upon him in the middle of a stand-up comedy set.

Its almost like the real Patton Oswalts persona was split among these different characters.

However, he did not get the location of the Darkhold.

That belongs to LT, the one and only Koenigsister.

And shes a badass.

Unfortunately, she also messed up.

Radcliffe, digging through Billys brain, finds the same information.

The Superior, though, isnt a fan of machines.

May LMD asks if she can come with.

Flirting ensues, followed by Philindas first ever kiss except, of course, one half is a robot.

Coulson asks her to give it to him, but she cant go against her programming.

The Superiors goons arrive, holding Billy at gunpoint, and demand the newly recovered Darkhold in exchange.

They have reinforcements, though, along with a cattle prod that stuns S.H.I.E.L.D.s superhero.

In the confusion, Billy makes a run for it.

May LMD asks him to take her along, but he refuses.

Afterward, the Koenigs finally reveal that they are not, in fact, robots.

Their identical appearance was the original LMD program, however, and theyre obsolete now.

The May LMD, however, is being preserved for now.

Toasting vodka back on his ship, the Superior finally tells Radcliffe what he wants with the Darkhold.

Radcliffe agrees to help him hunt down this obsession.

Oswalts return was so joyous and welcome, but it wasnt the only thing that made this episode great.
